GW2: Character Customization
Okay who here hates some of he defult faces presented in GW1? And who wishes that they could create their own customized character?
Well that is all possible, but, another game owns this concept idea which is Perfect World some asian MMORPG. Well anyways their character customization features allows almost limitless possibilities with the ability to change the face shape, eyes, nose and mouth etc.
Also the game allows you to put a picture of (for example) a celebrity in-game and stretch the character's face untill you get the desired look.
This feature also includes body shape and size and even make up.
In the end though, do have default faces seeing there are lazy people, but include this feature.
I personally have not played this game myself but I assume this could prove worthy if chosen to be implemented because of the good reviews i hear from my friends and other online sources about character customization although I heared the game play is a bit lacking.
I also heared about clothes/armor being able to be customized but I really don't have further knowledge into the subject.

I don't know how far the developement of GW2 is but I do have Anet has the ability to put this in even though it might be asking for too much. This would allow the game to be more diverse because honestly I have seen exact clones of my monk a zillion times.
But consider that another free to play MMORPG has this feature, you should take it, and make it better for marketing purposes to attract more players. =)

GW2 will be a "real" world just like GW1... it would be cool if you could change face, but then again it wouldn't be your old character... I don't understand why so many complain about changing faces... that removes the originality of your character. You won't find it so interesting when so many in a town are blonds with the same face

That is what I TALKING ABOUT! That would be great for character creation. i hate seeing all these clones running around. I'd say keep realistic skintones, and eye colours, but the rest of that would just be great. I'd love to create a character that really exemplefies my play style.
The Sims uses that kind of technology as well, so we know it exists. If GW2 could implement it as well i couldn't be happier!

Wah... much better than anything I've seen so far.
But so many customized data must be a pain for bandwith.

Actaully, you won't be using your GW1 character in GW2 since GW2 takes place hundreds of years after GW1.

More variety is better. Too many clones walking around in GW. One body proportion and we can change only the height, static faces and many of them are pretty ugly, a couple skin colors, a couple hair styles. Its understandable why we want a stylist, as it simply gets boring after a while.
Here's another character creation process, older, also from an anime-related game style-wise, with a few less options, but still giving a decent range of possible looks:

Take notes Anet.

Ahhh! I could spend all day making characters with this...
I'm pretty sure GW2 will have a better character creation process, it's always been the weakest aspect of GW IMO.

I'm pretty sure the devs at Anet are well aware of third party software like facegen. Unless they write their own from scratch that means paying for the software to use it, and it's not exactly cheap either. Free to play is always going to be more limited in scope than pay to play.
That said, yes I would like more customisation. Although the sort of micro management of eyebrows etc is barely going to register when you see people in game.

You'd be surprised. You see too easily at a glance too many clones in GW. In other MMOs I have played that have better customization, you might not be able to make out the exact details at a glance or if you are zoomed out a ways, but you can at least tell the faces are indeed different.
Ends up making even more difference to the player, who themselves are more likely to be zoomed into their character from time to time and/or looking closer at others. Its very nice to then admire what you did, as well as admire what someone else did, as opposed to oh, that combo again.

Oh I see plenty of clones, but I guess it just doesn't bother me that much. I don't spend that much time in towns or looking at other people.
If GW was what I consider to be an immersive MMO where you wander into town in a persistent world, and see people just passing by I guess I'd pay more attention. I certainly do in WoW which, it has to be said, has quite poor customisation as well.
I've seen some horrific creations made from facegen, even from people who are supposed to know what they're doing. xD
But hey, I'm still all for it. I just think it's unlikely in F2P game, particularly if they buy in the software.

I'm always in favor of more character customization. With past games like City of Heroes or Oblivion, I'll open it up and not even get past the character creation screen because I just want to see what I can make. GW's replicated faces and hairstyles really puts a damper on that, and the amount of enjoyment people would subsequently get out of advancing those characters.

This could easily be countered by having the actual creation process before the game actually connects itself to servers. You create your character, and as soon as you enter game it just sends the data that way. Data needs to be sent with character creation anyway, so it probably won't really matter whether it's recurring data or different every time.
I'm not a programmer, so I'm just guessing here. Does it sound viable?

I always wished that the character customization was a little more... custom. I've been wanting to make a Necro for some time, but they're all such unattractive pinch faced farret faces.
But yes, I would love to have that level of customization, if not more.

That's how i feel about Ritualitsts...The all look totally fugly.
Fugly is also the reason that, after my first NF character, whom i deleted, i refuse to make another Character who in NF native. God they are all SO UGLY!
